The average American woman spends three decades consciously trying to avoid having a baby.

A University of California, San Francisco study found that providing women up with one-year supply of birth-control pills slashed the abortion rate as well as the rate of unintended pregnancies. Additional research from the University of Texas at Austin suggests that oral contraceptives should be available over the counter (OTC).
