Who needs Pizza Hut coupons when you can pay with food stamps?

Yum! Brands, owner of Pizza Hut, KFC, and Taco Bell, wants to have its restaurants included in the federal food stamp program. With the number of businesses qualifying to accept food stamps growing by one third between 2005 and 2010, Yum! Brands is trying to get their restaurants more involved in the program. Historically, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has not allowed food stamps to be used to purchase prepared foods. With convenience stores and pharmacies have been approved to accept food stamps due to the sheer numbers of people living below the poverty line, fast food chains like Pizza Hut are arguing that they should be able to accept coupons as well. Yum! Brands is trying to fall under a provision in the federal program permitting restaurants like Pizza Hut to serve disabled, elderly and homeless people.
